Additional Information
Pair of Edwardian Mahogany Inlaid Antique Plant Stands, c.1900

Beneath the tops, neatly proportioned veneered aprons provide a subtle architectural framework, supported by four remarkably fine, gently splayed tapering legs. Each leg incorporates delicate vertical stringing, an especially attractive detail that accentuates the height and slenderness of the design without overwhelming its understated character.

A square lower display shelf is fitted between the legs of each stand, supported by shaped corner brackets. These shelves provide additional display space while contributing to the beautifully balanced proportions of the overall design.

Despite their delicate appearance, the stands have been thoughtfully constructed, with carefully considered joinery and elegant proportions throughout.

Their tall, narrow silhouettes make them particularly suitable for displaying decorative ceramics, small sculptures, porcelain or floral arrangements. They would look equally attractive positioned as a symmetrical pair or displayed separately within a room.

Condition & Historical Details

Both stands retain attractive colour, finely figured veneers and the character of their age. Minor surface marks, small scratches and variations in the polished finish are visible, consistent with previous use.

One stand retains an old Cockaynes Ltd., Sheffield, storage label on its underside, providing an interesting detail from its earlier history. This is a storage label rather than an identified manufacturer's mark.

The pair are attributed stylistically to the Edwardian Sheraton Revival tradition. No specific cabinetmaker has been established.

Workshop Conservation & Preparation

Every item offered by Shackleton Fox is carefully inspected, prepared, and where necessary conserved within our workshop prior to sale.

As heritage craftsmen and antique specialists, we believe in preserving the authenticity and integrity of each piece. Original finishes, patina, wear, and signs of age are retained wherever possible, as these elements contribute to both character and historical significance.

When restoration, rewiring, repairs, or conservation work is required, it is undertaken sympathetically using traditional techniques and materials appropriate to the period of the piece. Our philosophy is one of careful stewardship rather than unnecessary restoration, ensuring antiques remain both functional and historically respectful.

The result is a collection of pieces that have been thoughtfully prepared, allowing future owners to enjoy them with confidence while preserving their unique story and character.
