An architectural pediment is a triangular or curved decorative feature traditionally positioned above doors, windows, fireplaces and furniture. Originating in classical Greek and Roman architecture, pediments became a defining feature of Georgian, Regency and Neoclassical design. Antique pediments are admired for their carved ornament, symmetry and architectural elegance.
