An armillary sphere is a scientific instrument consisting of a series of interlocking rings representing the celestial equator, the ecliptic and other astronomical circles. Used from ancient times to study astronomy and navigation, antique armillary spheres are now admired as decorative objects symbolising exploration, science and learning.
