A Bibliothèque is the French term for a large bookcase or library cabinet, typically designed to house books while displaying decorative objects behind glazed doors. Antique bibliothèques became particularly fashionable during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and were often crafted from walnut, mahogany or oak with carved decoration, adjustable shelving and fine brass fittings. Today they remain elegant and practical pieces for libraries, studies and living rooms.
