Bolection Moulding is a decorative moulding that projects beyond the surface of a panel or frame, commonly used around fireplaces, doors and wall panelling. Introduced during the seventeenth century and widely used throughout the Georgian period, bolection mouldings create depth and shadow while accommodating movement between adjoining surfaces. They remain a defining feature of many historic interiors.
