Cased Glass is decorative glass produced by fusing two or more layers of differently coloured glass together while molten. The outer layer may then be cut, engraved or acid-etched to reveal the contrasting colour beneath, creating intricate decorative effects. This technique has been used since the nineteenth century to produce elegant vases, lighting, bowls and ornamental glassware, with many fine examples originating from Bohemia, England and France.
