De-waxing Furniture is the careful process of removing old wax polish, accumulated dirt and surface contaminants from antique furniture before conservation, restoration or refinishing. Traditionally carried out using specialist wax removers or appropriate solvents, de-waxing reveals the true condition of the underlying timber while preserving the original patina wherever possible. Professional de-waxing should always be undertaken with care to avoid damaging historic finishes, making it an important first step in sympathetic furniture restoration. *Related Terms*\ Antique Restoration, Furniture Conservation, French Polishing, Patina, Wax Finish, Wood Restoration.
