English Fire Dogs

English Fire Dogs, also known as andirons, are decorative supports placed inside an open fireplace to hold burning logs above the hearth, allowing improved airflow beneath the fire. Traditionally crafted from wrought iron, cast iron or brass, they have been used in England since the medieval period and evolved into highly decorative furnishings during the Georgian and Victorian eras. Antique English fire dogs are valued for their craftsmanship, functionality and architectural character.
