A Gate Pier is a substantial masonry or stone pillar positioned on either side of an entrance gate to support gates and create an imposing architectural entrance. Antique gate piers are often constructed from carved stone or brick and may be topped with decorative finials, urns or statues. They are significant features in country estates, manor houses and formal gardens.
