George Hepplewhite (d.1786) was one of the most influential English furniture designers of the late eighteenth century. His designs, published posthumously in *The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer\'s Guide*, are celebrated for their elegance, light proportions and refined Neoclassical decoration. Characteristic features include shield-back chairs, tapered legs, satinwood veneers and delicate inlay, all of which continue to define the Hepplewhite style.
