Gilt Bronze is bronze finished with a layer of gold, traditionally applied through mercury gilding or later gilding techniques. Favoured in French decorative arts during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, gilt bronze was widely used for clocks, chandeliers, furniture mounts and sculpture, combining durability with luxurious decorative appeal.
