Guipure Lace is a richly decorative lace characterised by embroidered motifs connected by bars or plaits rather than a net background. Originating in Europe during the Renaissance and flourishing throughout the Victorian period, guipure lace was widely used for clothing, bridal wear, furnishings and ecclesiastical textiles. Antique examples are admired for their intricate craftsmanship and sculptural appearance.
