Xuande Mark

A Xuande mark is a reign mark associated with the rule of the Chinese Xuande Emperor, who reigned during the Ming dynasty from 1425 to 1435. Xuande marks are encountered on Chinese ceramics and bronzes and are particularly well known because objects produced for the imperial court during the period achieved an exceptional reputation for craftsmanship.

A reign mark generally identifies the emperor during whose reign an object purports to have been made. Xuande marks commonly refer to the “Great Ming Xuande reign”, although their form and placement vary according to material and object type.
