A Basin is a bowl-shaped vessel used for holding water, traditionally crafted from porcelain, marble, ceramic, stone or metal. Antique basins were commonly used with washstands and bedroom furniture before the introduction of indoor plumbing. Decorative examples often feature hand-painted porcelain, transfer-printed decoration or carved stone and remain popular as period decorative objects.
