Chintz is a glazed cotton fabric traditionally decorated with colourful floral or botanical designs. Originating in India during the seventeenth century, chintz became immensely fashionable throughout Europe for use in upholstery, curtains, bed hangings and soft furnishings. Antique chintz is particularly associated with English country house interiors, where its vibrant patterns introduced colour and elegance to domestic settings.
