A Dust Shade is a protective glass shade fitted over a lamp burner or light fitting to reduce the accumulation of dust while softening and diffusing the light. Commonly associated with Victorian and Edwardian oil lamps and early electric lighting, dust shades were produced in clear, frosted, opaline and coloured glass. Antique examples remain popular for their practicality, elegant appearance and contribution to the authenticity of period lighting.
