A Balloon Back Chair is a nineteenth-century chair distinguished by its rounded, balloon-shaped backrest. Introduced during the Regency period and becoming especially popular throughout the Victorian era, the elegant curved back provided both comfort and visual refinement. Balloon back chairs were commonly produced in mahogany, walnut and rosewood, often with upholstered drop-in seats and finely carved decorative details. They remain one of the most recognisable forms of Victorian seating.
