Broken Pediment

A Broken Pediment is a classical architectural feature in which the apex or centre of a triangular or curved pediment is intentionally left open, often allowing space for an urn, cartouche, finial or decorative sculpture. Popular during the Baroque, Georgian and Victorian periods, broken pediments appear on furniture, clocks, mirrors, doorways and architectural façades, adding visual drama and elegance.
