Deal Pine is a softwood timber, traditionally imported from Scandinavia and the Baltic regions, widely used in British furniture making and construction from the seventeenth century onwards. Valued for its straight grain, workability and affordability, deal pine was commonly employed in country furniture, cupboards, dressers and painted pieces. Antique examples often develop a warm honey-coloured patina with age. *Related Terms*\ Country Furniture, Painted Furniture, Pine, Scandinavian Timber, Softwood.
