Egyptian Faience is one of the earliest glazed ceramic materials, produced in Ancient Egypt from finely ground quartz coated with a brilliant blue, turquoise or green vitreous glaze. Although not true pottery, faience was widely used to create jewellery, amulets, scarabs, figurines, vessels and decorative tiles, symbolising rebirth, protection and eternal life. Ancient Egyptian faience remains highly significant to archaeologists and collectors, while also inspiring later Egyptian Revival decorative arts. *Related Terms*\ Ancient Egypt, Egyptian Revival, Faience, Scarab, Glazed Ceramics, Archaeological Antiquities.
