A Dado Rail is a horizontal moulding fixed to an interior wall to separate the lower dado from the upper wall surface. Widely used throughout the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian periods, dado rails provided both architectural decoration and protection against damage from furniture. They remain a characteristic feature of many period interiors. *Related Terms*\ Cornice, Dado, Panelling, Picture Rail, Wainscoting.
