Electroplated Silver

Electroplated Silver refers to objects coated with a layer of silver through the electroplating process, usually over a base metal such as nickel silver or copper. Popular from the mid-nineteenth century onwards, electroplated silver became widely used for cutlery, tea services, candlesticks, trays and decorative household items. Antique examples are admired for combining the appearance of solid silver with durability and affordability. *Related Terms*\ Electroplate, EPNS, Sheffield Plate, Silver Plate, Sterling Silver, Tableware.
