Bleaching Wood is the process of lightening the natural colour of timber using chemical bleaching agents to remove stains, discolouration or previous finishes. While commonly used in modern furniture restoration, bleaching is generally discouraged when conserving antique furniture, as it can permanently alter the original colour, remove historic patina and diminish both authenticity and value. Conservation specialists typically favour preserving original surfaces wherever possible.
