Commode

A Commode is a decorative chest of drawers, traditionally featuring two or three long drawers and often displaying elegant serpentine or bombe fronts. Originating in France during the late seventeenth century, commodes became highly fashionable throughout the Georgian, Regency and Victorian periods. Fine examples may incorporate veneers, marquetry, ormolu mounts, marble tops and intricate inlay, making them among the most desirable forms of antique furniture. *Related Terms*\ Bombé, Chest of Drawers, French Furniture, Marble Top, Marquetry, Ormolu, Veneer.
