Dome Glass

Dome Glass is curved or hemispherical glass manufactured to form a protective dome over decorative objects, clocks, taxidermy, sculptures or display pieces. Commonly mounted on wooden or ebonised bases, glass domes became particularly popular during the Victorian period as a means of protecting treasured possessions while allowing them to remain on display. Antique dome glass is also used in lanterns, ceiling lights and architectural fittings. *Related Terms*\ Cloche, Display Dome, Glass Shade, Shade, Victorian Display.
