Hemlock is a softwood obtained from coniferous trees of the *Tsuga* genus, valued for its straight grain, stability and ease of working. Although less commonly used in high-end antique furniture than hardwoods, hemlock has been employed in joinery, architectural panelling, cabinetry and utility furniture. It remains an important timber for restoration and traditional woodworking.
