A Copperplate Print is an image produced from an engraved or etched copper plate using an intaglio printing process. Renowned for its crisp detail, fine line work and distinctive plate mark, copperplate printing dominated European printmaking between the sixteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Antique copperplate prints were commonly used to illustrate books, atlases, botanical studies, sporting scenes and architectural views, and remain highly collectable for their artistic quality and historical importance.
