Bronze Doré, also known as Gilt Bronze, refers to finely cast bronze that has been gilded with a layer of gold, traditionally using the mercury-gilding process. Highly fashionable during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, particularly in France, Bronze Doré was extensively used on clocks, chandeliers, candelabra, furniture mounts and decorative objects. Antique examples are admired for their exceptional craftsmanship, rich golden finish and association with luxury French decorative arts.
