THE SHACKLETON FOX ENCYCLOPAEDIA

Composite Order

The Composite Order is the most ornate of the five Classical Orders, combining the volutes of the Ionic capital with the acanthus leaves of the Corinthian capital. Developed by the Romans, the Composite Order became particularly popular during the Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical periods, symbolising architectural grandeur and refinement.
